The reference work is distributed widely throughout the world and housed in numerous libraries and research institutions. Inclusion is based on merit and invitation only. Figurations of Knowledge

From 2 to 7 June 2008, the Zentrum für Literatur- und Kulturforschung is hosting the 5th biannual European conference of the Society for Literature, Science, and the Arts (SLSA). Under the heading of 'Figurations of Knowledge' the conference comprises eleven thematic streams with more than two hundred talks. Keynote lectures and evening events will feature scholars and artists like Christine Borland, Carol Colatrella, Gerd Gigerenzer, Nick Hopwood, Hans-Jörg Rheinberger, Andi Schoon and Sigrid Weigel.The conference venues are Kaiserin-Friedrich-Haus, Robert-Koch-Platz 7; Katholische Akademie Berlin, Hannoversche Straße 5; Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus, Luisenstraße 58/59; Hörsaalruine (Lecture Hall Ruin), Berliner Medizinhistorisches Museum / Campus Charité Mitte, Charitéplatz 1; Villa Elisabeth, Invalidenstraße 3.Guests are welcome to join the conference. Advanced registration is not possible, but a number of half-day tickets costing €4 will be available at the conference office in the Kaiserin-Friedrich-Haus between 10 and 18:00 (tickets can also be purchased in the breaks).

Begründung der Subjektivität

In seinem neuen Buch "Denken und Selbstsein" entwickelt Dieter Henrich Gedanken zur Begründung der Subjektivität. Uwe Justus Wenzel ist für die NZZ den nicht immer einfachen Gedanken mit großem Interesse und sogar Genuss gefolgt: "Die 'Unverständlichkeit des Zentrums der Subjektivität' und die daraus erwachsende Irritation des bewussten Lebens, das der Mensch ist und führt, bilden die leitmotivisch wiederkehrende These. Sie wird in einer Exposition und drei Durchführungen variiert und entfaltet. Die Gedankengänge sind komplex und ihrer Umsichtigkeit wegen bisweilen umständlich (wie ihr Urheber nüchtern festhält). Sorgsame Umständlichkeit entwickelt allerdings, so sie sich in einer fließenden Sprache artikuliert, eine eigene Eleganz."
