Ok well someone needed to post something here and at present this is the most talked about current event, so there ya go.
I was glad to find out that Marten hadn't been in Thailand when this happened. He had been touring the area right before this took place and sent a few of us an email about his travels. Luckily he went back to Argentina to be with his family for Christmas.
Does anyone know if Clemens was in Thailand during the holidays? I just remember he use to go there a lot during the winter break and I just want to make sure he's alright as well.
my mom is there now. she left yesterday morning. our family wasn't hit as bad as they could have been because we live a little ways inland from the water, but this island we used to vacation at was completely distroyed. we sent a bunch of clothing we don't wear anymore with her to donate to the victims.
Thanks for posting this topic, Danielle. I didn't even consider the possibility that some of our people were out there. Great to know Mårten is all right.
Man....I didn't think anyone I knew was there...I hope everyone is ok. Sheesh...amazing what water can do.
Webster University has a campus over there.... thank god it was christamas break
Gift, I'm glad to hear your family is ok. I completely forgot that you have family members in Thailand.
yeah...that was a pretty harrowing day for us. luckily, we managed to call early. later that day, it was impossible to get through
Damn, in light of the mood of this thread any kind of cynnical comments seem out of place. Well, the butcher's bill's up to over 210,000 now - rather high but we've had higher in the last 20 years. Well, maybe some of you better educated folks knew all this stuff already, but it was somewhat of an eye-opener to me. Incidentally, Famine seems to hold the record of most number of souls claimed. (Short of the plague, but that was quite some time ago). Pretty ironic, considering the oversupply of food in MDC's.
Did you all hear about the "Tsunami Song" that aired on a NYC morning show. I can't believe there are such idiots out there.
Anyway, the whole staff has been suspended. Serves them right.
