I have to say Watership Down was probably one of my least favorites books we read in High School, for all of you who had Mr. Jones.
oh my god, that book was soooooo slow. i know i was probably the only one who didn't like this book, but i never finished 100 years of solitude. that book just didn't do it for me.
That was one book I actually finished, but it wasn't my favorite.  Remember Grendel and Beowolf?  What was that shit!?
hmm. i liked watership down (read it on my own free time). i loved grendel. and 100 years of solitude wasn't half that bad (the problem was that we were reading it too slowly and doing too much imagery analysis on it)

now, the odyssey, that was some slow-mo shit, could probably be cut in half without reducing content or artistic value...

yeah I hated all the greek literature...The Odyssey and Oedipus Rex.  Forgot about those.  Those were def the worst.
you know...i didn't like reading the odyssey in tenth grade, but then i had to read it for a class freshmen year and i actually really liked it. i think it might have been one of those books that's better the second time around...
I had to read it sophomore year in college, and I hated it even more.  hahahaha sorry.  Different strokes for different folks I guess.
umm...would people hit me if I say I totally dreaded english class when we were reading Waiting for Godot and Rosencrantz and Gilderstern are Dead? I had absolutely no clue what was going on in those two. Just too deep for my simple mind to grasp...

nah, there wasn't any point to those. they were fun (in a masochistic sort of way), but rather pointless...

I LOVED Grendel and Beowulf. Even brought myself to watch the interpreted movie starring Beowulf. It started out ok, but in the end it sucked.

i actually liked the Odyssey. I love medieval material (except any highlander shit) and greek mythology, especially Troy! Loved that damn thing.
i'll second that. i thought the greek stuff was pretty awesometastic- but then again, i'm a sucker for fairytales, legends, and the like :)

ALSO, i ABSOLUTELY LOVED rosencrantz and gildenstern are dead! i liked waiting for godot, but i LOVED R+G are dead.

I hated all of them except Fool's Crow, two chapters of A Hero of Our Time, and The Catcher in the Rye
Ugh Fools Crow, another one I did not like.  The books I really enjoyed were all the Shakespeare plays and I absolutely LOVED Crime and Punishment.  Such a good book!
ooooh, i think i took every shakespeare class mrs. zlabinger offered starting in tenth grade. heh. i'm a geek. i managed to have at least one class with every single high school english teacher.
Mrs Zlabinger was my favorite teacher at AIS, with the exception of Mrs Heedles and Mr Marinucci (I loved them too).  I know many of you loved Sellars, but Zlabinger was by far my fave!

jones. nuff said.

well in fact all of our english teachers were pretty good, even the one for ninth grade.

Yeah I liked Jones.  I honestly wasn't the biggest Sellars fan, I know everyone's going to want to stone me now for saying that, but she just didn't do it for me.  She def had her favorites and let's just say I wasn't one of them.
i loved jones, zlabinger, and marinucci...i also really liked carrol, heedles (the missus), and krassnig.

sellars...well...i think sellars was the only teacher who, instead of helping me to improve and grow as far as analytical writing was concerned, actually caused me to regress. i can't think of a single comment on any of my papers that could constitute as constuctive critism. and i remember going and actually talking with her once which was even less helpful. i believe all i got out of her was "d-d-d-did you even read the book?!"

that's not to say that i didn't think she was incredible during our graduation. i thought she did a beautiful job with her speech and thought it was incredibly personal and touching.

but as a teacher? uh uh. no way. nicht. niente.

I think I was the only one who didn't hug her during the graduation ceremony. Oh well. My favorite thing she ever did to me was grade a quiz of mine as follows:

"F 0 This is the biggest bullshit I've ever read."

That's right, she crossed out the F and replaced it with a number zero!
