Has anyone read The Da Vinci Code.  It was a bit of an easy read, but I found it so interesting!
Bought it last weekend to satisfy my curiosity, but haven't got around to it yet. Guess that's what I'll do during winter break!  :;):
I'm still waiting for my copy, it got "stuck" at my dad's appartment in moscow...
I hate it when people say "the book was much better than the movie". All I have to say is "you know what I liked the most about the movie...NO READING!"   :laughlong:
.....as quoted from a comedian I saw on Comedy Central last summer.....

i LOVED the da vinci code- but you know, you're supposed to read "angels and demons" first!

other recommends? "the lovely bones" is amazing; all "harry potter" books, naturally; alice in wonderland is definitely a classic!

hm...i'm going to go out on a limb and assume that no one/not many of you have read "the lovely bones" and then tell you to read it. unless you are all uncultured swine who don't indulge in literary loveliness.

stan's recommended reading list outside of standard lit curriculum. most is casual reading, a number require critical thinking tho (so don't complain later)

anything and everything ever written by terry pratchett - more satire than fantasy

george r.r. martin's a song of ice and fire - the world's most realistic, gritty, and well written fantasy tale, WWII is a walk in the park by comparison

machiavelli's the prince - i think some ppl read it in TOK, but this book is quite entertaining - well, i do have some strange tastes, but...

scott adams' the dilbert principle - nuff said

robert a. heinlein's orphans of the sky and stanislaw lem's the futurological congress - scifi novels about questioning reality, to me these are the literature precursors for stuff like the matrix

I've read the Lovely Bones.  Very good book, although I personally liked The Secret Life of Bees better. (It's another new release)  Such a good book!
Book of the Nosferatu.  Anyone who likes vampire and werewolf movies would get a kick out of it.  It was written like 100 years ago or something. Good luck finding it.  Also Forrest Gump.  Has very little to do with the movie and is actually very deep. Kind of a cross between Catcher in the Rye and Of Mice and Men.
These are probably considered GIRLY books, but Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre are seriously two of my most favorote books!  I know Gift will back me up on this one too!
Pride and Prejudice is definitely my all-time favorite!
Yay!  Have you seen the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth!?  *Sigh* It's wonderdul!
I had to read Pride and Prejudice for my British Literary History class my sophomore year of college. I don't remember the book too much, but when ever I hear that name I have to think of that class, the worst one I ever took.
Hey Pericas, I bet Anne of Green Gables is up there too, huh?

Oh yeah, Colin Firth definitely made the series all the more enjoyable! Considering that I saw it on German TV and the whole German-dubbing didn't keep me away from it just proves how wonderful it was!  ;)

And I admit I had an Anne-of-Green-Gables phase once upon a time... :D

By the way, I finished the Da Vinci Code over the break. It was very entertaining and an easy read, but I just can't quite see Tom Hanks playing the main character for the movie. He is playing the part, isn't he?
AH! i hate that tom hanks was chosen for davinci code! i can't see him doing it! i have to say that were harrison ford younger, he'd have probably nailed that role, but its not a hanks film. you know who i'd actually love to see in it? johnny depp. he's got to be the most versatile actor in hollywood. every role he's taken on has been different.

AND YAYYYYY PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, JANE ERYE, AND THE ANNE OF GREEN GABLES SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!! heh heh, colin firth rocks my socks. i have to say, even though my heart belongs to george clooney and johnny depp who are both magically delicious, colin firth ranks right up there with them. yum. i'd do him. :D

OOH!! and PS!!! who else is excited about the next harry potter coming out?!?!?!?? WHEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! my best friend's mom preordered me one when she ordered her's!! heh. she's awesome. my harry potter buddy. swoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon! i do love me some harry potter. :D
Who the hell is Colin Firth?  I have this gut feeling that I should know who he is.  Please tell.  Also....I recommend the book Starship Troopers.  I know what you're all saying. But this book was written back in 1959 and explains the workings of many governments and political and social issues that we're still dealing with.  It has nothing to do with that trash that was the movie. Except for names and places.  It really is a good one.

I don't really know either. I think he's like the current fad actor all the ladies are crazy about He's like 40-something I think. To this day I don't get why women are all obsessed about men twice their age. Doesn't really happen the other way around that much except with... uh... Dah, what's his name... Oh, Justin Timberlake... And there it's only like 25% older I think, in regards to Cameron Diaz.

Then again, I'm just bad with names in general.

Oh ok...girls and older guys...HEY GIRLS!! I'M OLDER TOO!! And for some reason...I get less girls than a corpse. I hate being Polish.
