Well, the 2006 Winter Olympics are underway in Turin... Any thoughts? So far I've only had the chance to watch the opening ceremony. I loved Pavarotti's "oh damn, I have to hit this last note" expression at the end. Poor guy.
An ironic thing is the U.S. is leading in the medal count according the method used by the IOC and virtually all international press (gold first method). However, U.S. press has to report Norway leading, because they use the total metal count method!
I predict Germany to win again, as they did in 1998, and theoretically 2002 using the official . In Salt Lake City two Norwegians tied in an event and that gave Norway an extra metal. Germany had 16 silvers versus Norway's 5, and would have otherwise won.
Which method do you think is better? Gold first or total count?
my heart is broken that michelle kwan had to withdraw. i think i might have cried. maybe.
Yeah, that is a bit sad... She always got screwed over in the olympics... In 1994 the USOC took Tonja Harding instead of her... What a waste that was. In both 1998 and 2002 she was significantly older (which is a disadvantage) than her teammates that won gold. Oh well, she has like 9 world champion golds, so she had a pretty great career.
