I've been getting into a bunch of arguments with Thorsten and one or two other people lately about what I mostly consider a bunch of unjustified rumors about who has attended AIS. I've heard everything from Jon Bon Jovi to Billy Joel to Bryan Adams. And there's the story about the upper gym being used to film one of the European *NSYNC videos (in the days before they were popular in the US).

All right, here we go:

Bryan Adams: As far as I have been able to research, he lived in Vancouver until he was 15 and then dropped out and toured around.

Billy Joel: Yeah, a common misconception because his father lives in Vienna and he wrote the song "Vienna."

Jon Bon Jovi: Went to high school in the states.

I think in regard to famous alumni we'll have to make do with Thomas Stemberg, the former CEO (now Chairman of the Board) of Staples, the world's largest office supply store chain.

The *NSYNC video: A Google search for "*NSYNC music video AIS Vienna" turns out nothing meaningful, nor does "*NSYNC music video "International School" So, I'm sorry kids, I'm sure those dudes could have found a closer-to-Germany location to film. I'm sure that with the millions of fans that they had, someone would have mentioned the filming location somewhere. But I'll ask Joey the next time I see him at Wal-Mart. Or can any of you who were at AIS around 1997/1998 confirm this?

Now you'll have to excuse me, I have to go party downtown.

Update: Finally found the name of the video that was shot in a high school gym. It's called "Here We Go." I'm going to go about downloading it somewhere and I'll have a look whether that's really AIS's upper gym.
Yeah...I've actually seen the video "Here we Go" and I can DEF say that it is our gym.
Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately!) everybody has already forgotten *NSYNC to the extent that I can't find this damn video... But I'll keep looking. I still don't get why the hell they'd use our gym. Did someone bribe them?
All right, here we go (no pun intended):

Still frames from the video:

Well, I'm still not convinced, but I'm wasting way too much time on this.

I'm pretty sure the NSYNC video is our gym... i'll see what I can do to find a copy..lol....hey it's summer... gotta waste your time some how
Here's a link to this ridiculous video:

Daniel

Thanks for providing the video, Daniel.

Well, looks like I lost this one , but I'll double check a few features, such as placements of the exit doors sometime when I visit AIS again.

Anyway, this topic at least made for a good discussion!

They run around in their little red, white, and blue outfits, so we can all admire their patriotism, athletic prowess,  and wicked-cool fashion sense. Obviously this was before they were allowed to pick out their own clothes. (Those were hard times indeed.) We also get quite a view of their sexy toothpick legs and muscular physiques.

The numbers on their jerseys indicate their rank in the group. Justin is first (obviously) and JC is last, because well - he always was a little weird. And back then, nobody knew he could write songs. Things have shuffled around a bit since then.

The other team is dressed in black. Of course. Otherwise, how would we know that they’re the bad guys? They don’t have numbers or names on their jerseys - because, who cares who they are? Perhaps they’re meant to be the Backstreet Boys.

just go to www.google.at  and as the search, enter:"nsync vienna 1997"  its the fifth or sixth one down. anyway, so yes, their "here we go" video was filmed in our school. sorry for butting in, i know im not allumni yet, but i thought i might resolve a rumor question, and so I am posting this on your allumni site... Anyways, see ya

~mimi bownstone  (still a junior at AIS)

Thanks Mimi for your help. Yeah, Daniel posted a link to the video, http://www.glumbert.com/daniel/herewego.mpeg, upon which I officially conceded! At least no one has been able to prove me wrong on the alumni rumors!
This topic springs back to life again, after Mimi sent me an email more or less confirming the Bryan Adams rumors. Since his dad was a military diplomat, and they were in Vienna in the mid 1960s, this rumor can be pretty much be certified!
