I don't know how many of you have been following AIS events at all, but this is some fairly new (one month old) news for you:

Kevin Haverty, Upper School Principal at the International School of Prague has been named Dr. Spradling's successor for the post of director.

Here are some excerpts from Ronja Altmann, current High School Student President, from her brother Mischa's forum site:

Before the decision:

The director search process has been going on now for a month or so and three final candidates have been taken out of the massive amount of applicants.  They are Kevin Haverty (HS principal of ISPrague); John Chandler (Director of Koc school Istanbul); and Russell Jones (HS principal of ASWarsaw).  I don't know anything about them, meaning i haven't been given any information on them.  But i have to interview them this week.  GREAT!! I love our organised school.  No idea how and when the interviews will take place, how much time i have (how many questions i can ask) and so on.  This whole paper work takes so long.  I asked the responsible people a week before break for some information and haven't gotten a reply wheter or not its possible until now.  Well i guess i just have to improvise... lets see what happens

Damn bureaucracy

After the decision:

Sounds great.  But you know that I love AIS and as I've said so often and will say even more often, I criticize it only so much because I love it and want it to be even better.  Yesterday we found out that Mr. Haverty was chosen.  His "Konkurenz" was really good though.  One guy, another Spradling was a real dissappointment after Haverty.  But then there was a woman, Mrs. Seppela. She was awesome.  I had a real hard time deciding between them and in the end I wrote to the board that I liked both of them and thought they were both as close to perfect for the job as they could be.  By the way Kai, she came from Massechusets where she was the director of a highschool, and the way she talked about it made it seem even more liberal than AIS.  But Haverty a great candidate. I just hope that he turns out to be the way that he seemed to be during the interview times :( otherwise this will be me:  :crying:

Ciao
Ronja

In other news, AIS has been building new additions like crazy. From the latest Globespotter:

Many things have been going on at AIS in the last six months and all  of you who came and visited our campus will have noticed some big changes: we now have a  completely renovated and enlarged sports field with an artificial grass surface, flood lights, and  bleachers which seat 200 spectators. And at the far end of the field we have added an outdoor  basketball court, high jump and long jump pits as well as a 60m sprint track.  In addition to that, we  have finished the Elementary School extension which now offers much bigger classrooms for the  German classes, a new Prinicpal’s and Secretary’s office, a large Elementary School General Room  which can be used for assemblies, watching movies and for plays, and a Multipurpose Room – which  we are currently using as an additional music instruction room as well as for assemblies. But that’s  not all! We are currently in the final stages of completing the High School extension. All of you can  surely remember the High School classrooms as being much too small – we have therefore added an  entire new floor to that part of the school in which we will offer four new classrooms as well as a  Counseling Center for the Middle and High School Counselors and support staff. --Dr. Spradling

Enrollment is currently around 720 students.

In other news, the annual alumni-show-up-at school thing is today, and the official reunion is from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. So if you're in Vienna, head up there. Or go hit up happy hour... either way!
